I Get to do This

She’s only been here for 2 years, just 2 years living in this world.
She doesn’t understand much about life or emotions.
And she’s limited on what she can do being at the mercy of her parents for adventures and entertainment.
Sometimes in the busyness of life, I forget to look at things from her perspective.
But on this cold spring day, I looked down at her to see her staring up at me smiling and giggling and I realized this meant EVERYTHING to her.
What I took as just a simple way to break up the day and step out for some vitamin D, opened up a world of adventure and special time with mommy for her.
Every time I would look at her, I was greeted with this little smile and scrunched up nose, just the perfect reassurance that what we were doing mattered. Something this simple can bring this much joy to a tiny little girl.
Moms, I know how long, exhausting, and unnerving these days can be. But moments like this we will look back on over and over again.
During the teenage years, I will remember this little face and how much she loved me and how easy it was to make her happy.
In just a short couple of years, I will have to share her with the world forever.
This time is golden!
I will never take for granted that I GET to do this.

I love children, they have so much energy and they dream so much. They learn a million miles an hour and the real world is furthest from their minds. We must protect them and make sure they grow into amazing people.

I completely 100% agree. It is amazing how fast they learn too. We must protect them!

Perfectly said. They are only little for such a short while. Slow down and enjoy those moments.

What an adorable little girl! This is so true, everything is special and wonderful as a child and mommy is the most amazing person in the world. Great to read about how much you both are enjoying each other’s company.

Kat, Thank you. It is a great time for sure. My prayer is that other mothers slow down enough to recognize these special little moments.

The innocence of a little child is so refreshing. I think so many parents are so guilty of forgetting the little things that matter to their kids because of the pressure of making sure that food and bills are paid off. Now that everything is forcefully simplified because of the pandemic, we have more time to enjoy the little things in life. Such a beautiful post!

Yes, everything has gotten so much more simplified. I love that. I really do try so hard to slow down and look at things from my kid’s perspective.

They grow so fast, don’t they? My son is 19 months and I like the simple moments we spend together.
